this persistent grey
magnifies the compressed dark–
dawn heavy with dusk
squirrels search for buried treasure–
seeds in wait for light’s return
For Frank Tassone’s #Haikai Challenge #117. I was going to do a completely different collage, but once I pulled out the handmade paper, I decided that stitching some together was what was needed. I haven’t done any stitching for awhile, and it was good to get back to it.
The squirrels have been very busy lately.
A wonderful metaphor, K. Squirrels searching for buried treasure. Seeds waiting for light’s return. Glad you are back to stitching. The piece is appealing for the straight lines overlaid by chaos…

Thanks Jade. Stitching is so meditative for me, I need to get back to it.

I love counted cross stitch and crochet and find those meditative also. With the piece you just did it looks like you *are* back to it!

What a fascinating line, “dawn heavy with dusk.” It is an oxymoron but so effective.

Thanks Robbie. The days feel that way now, but they will be opening again after the solstice.

I also loved ”dawn heavy with dusk”. It says so much, so many interpretations it could be given. Loved the artwork too!

I really like this one–lovely phrases and imagery. And the stitching, too.
It seems to be the squirrels have been very busy for the last couple of months. I hope that’s not an indicator of a particularly hard winter.

Thanks Merril. Also so many acorns this year…I’ve been told that means a hard winter too.

Oh, yes–you’re right about the acorns. I was actually awakened by the falling and thumping on our roof earlier in the fall.

I like that image. It feels as though we are compressed between dusk and dawn, dawn and dusk with no let up.

Yes, it reflects the atmosphere of the world at the moment.

I love the image of dawn being heavy with dusk. The grey stitched paper really works to add to the intensity.
