shall
we drink
to our fears?–
summoning lost
solidarity–
drowning pain with spirit
voices that echo and join
each other in chorused silence
broken like the bread we wish to share
A nonet for Colleen’s #Tanka Tuesday, inspired by the photo provided by Padre’s Ramblings, above. The artwork has no direct relation to either the photo or the words, but the wish to merge in our isolation runs parallel to both.
I haven’t been happy with most of the art I’ve done in the past month–I was really having trouble focusing even before the world became so uncertain–but one thing I did to try to get started was just some random drawing. This is the before and after of one day’s work. I drew with pencils and then used neocolors dipped in water on top. I can’t say I’m satisfied, but maybe with some stitching on top…(the solution to many dilemmas I find)
Looks like waves under water, K. Your nonet reflects the state of now so well.

Maybe you need a seagull in that left hand drawing.
Merril was just saying she couldn’t concentrate either. Suddenly there seem to be so many other things that need doing.

I’ve actually been drawing some seagulls…looking toward draw a bird day. They make a lot if noise here in the mornings.

It’s hard not to like them though I know some people hate them, but they are so associated with the ocean. It’s true that some gulls have adapted to living with people and that’s usually not good news…

There’s a garbage treatment facility along the river nearby. I’m sure that’s what attracts them.

Probably. Where I grew up, right in the middle of the country, that’s where you’d find hundreds of them.

It all feels so crazy right now. Nicely captured.

Your poem captures the current mood/times–I like the wordplay of spirit. 😀
I like Jane’s idea of the seagull added to the left image, but the right looks like a field of flowers to me.

Thanks Merril. I could use some flowers right now! The daffodils I bought 2 weeks ago seem like a distant memory.

That is sad. I hope you can see some soon.

Kerfe, Your drawings reflect what I’m also feeling. I’m having trouble concentrating and writing has been difficult. I keep trying to push away the fears of the world. Like your one drawing, the lines circle back to the same fears over and over again. Wow… I get that! You know, Padre sent me that photo weeks ago. Who knew it would kindle such poignant feelings? Well done on your Nonet, my friend. Please stay safe. ❤

Thanks Colleen. We create what we need I think. May we all ride through this in a safe place.

I couldn’t agree more, Kerfe. The newness is wearing off… now, we have to learn how to live under this different world order. ❤

Hi, Kerfe! You always use the perfect combination of colors in your artwork. I look at the finished piece and can’t help smiling. It’s cheery and reminds me of childhood innocence. I enjoyed your Nonet very much! Have a fabulous new week and take care. ❤
