Sorry is
a reflex, a word in
cluding all
regrets for
ever, past and future, large,
tiny, unnoticed–
What was done,
what should have been done–
can we know
what will sprout
from mistakenly planted
words, expectations?
Should I take
back those seeds, wish them
gone, destroy
what was born
when unknowing became theft?
Who will unsing those
Songs?
The NaPoWriMo prompt for today is “to write a non-apology for the things you’ve stolen”. I’m very quick to say sorry, but there are always layers of meaning underneath.
What interesting line breaks — they work well!

An interesting question, Kerfe. What has been done and said can never been changed or retracted.

It can’t. And we can’t always see the true results of our actions until much later.

Can’t be unsaid or unheard but can be regretted and forgiven. Always hoping for a path back.

Beautiful poem and gorgeous art once again. ❤ Your greens are deadly to me. They hit me in just the spot. 🙂

I adore what you’ve done with that collage, Kerfe – and I really love the poem, all the line breaks and the whole shape of it works so well!

And this. My favourite! I wonder too…

Love this. I have often pondered the word ‘sorry.’ Spills so easily from the lips, and often forgotten as quickly as it was said. I think it’s far better to demonstrate and integrate lessons learned. Contrition if necessary. Or simply asking sincerely and humbly to be forgiven. We all say and do stupid stuff. But we can learn. Love Nyro btw. 💜

Thanks Bela. Yes hopefully we keep learning, and forgiving. That’s not so easy to do.
