The food line outside my window last week.
the language of fasting
chants with hungry tongues
raw shadows eating
the wind
drunk on the bitter beauty
of never
why do we worship men
who fiddle with words
as need burns?

Why indeed? Is it congenital stupidity?
This is the third reference to Nero and his fiddle I’ve read in the last week. I wonder if it’s a general feeling about leaders and their inability to do what needs to be done.

There is a lot of fear fed with ignorance. I suppose that’s always the case. But schools don’t teach anything beyond what will produce high test scores (or large profits) any more either. A democracy can’t exist without a truly educated population.

I think that’s true everywhere. ‘Education’ went out with the Industrial Revolution. Only the rich ever got one, and when school became compulsory it wasn’t to teach kids what the rich would consider education, just how to sit still and take orders.

So sad. Why indeed? The Oracle knows what’s happening, I just wish she could help.
