Red is an imaginary carpet
dancing with desire,
lettering the days
with roses and birdwings.
Red is the sky
that turns the morning
into an omen, the night
into a full moon–
catching dreams
like a wayfaring balloon
painting the town with stars.
The NaPoWriMo prompt today is to write a poem that delves into the meaning of your first or last name. Roig means red in Catalan.

great characterization of the color. Such vivid art images to go with. The cardinal looks alive!

Thanks Jade. My mother loved both the color red and cardinals, so they always make me think of her.

My mom says when cardinals visit it is a visit from a loved one that’s passed on. I like that idea.

I’ve heard that about all kinds of birds. I like that idea too.

Great shades of red Kerfe! We knew a child whose first name was Roig when we lived in Catalunya.

Its a very common name in Puerto Rico, where some of our relatives were supposedly from, although I’ve found no written record of it. But I’ve not heard it as a first name. Why not? It has a nice sound to it. (K)

I guess a lot of Catalans must have migrated to Puerto Rico! The people who named their child that were very strong supporters of the independence movement.

Love that image and it’s odd because red isn’t the colour that springs to mind. Works though.

So many lovely images in this Kerfe, but like Jane I was captivated by the moon lines. (Of course.) π
I didn’t know Roig was a Catalan name. Is Kerfe also?

Thanks Merril. Kerfe is a nickname from early adolescence.
