What is?
Why not say blue
mirror, say deep well–
Why not say sun
light, say bright fire?
Dancing circles
into braided beginnings,
the meeting of earth and air
Weaving flowers
to welcome back
the missing and missed
Swallowing the past,
planting the future–
doing and being both—
Balancing the between
to expand
in both directions
What is?
Why not say moment
of birth, say the point when
life begins, say spirit,
breath, embodiment?
What is?
Why not say the pivot
of is and is not?

Sarah has given us the inspiration of Beltrane at earthweal this week. Whatever you choose to write about, remember that this is a celebration, of new life, of love and of the endless bounty of this planet.

LOVE!
Kerfe, could you please define “mandala” for me? Is it any art that is shaped as a circle? Please forgive my ignorance.

Thanks David.
There are plenty of technical definitions (I think it was originally an accessory to meditation), but I use it as you said–art shaped as a circle. This could also include any circular movement.

Thanks Manja. The spirit of the day is dancing I think.

I love the contrast and interweaving of water and fire, Kerfe, ‘Dancing circles into braided beginnings’, and the lines:
‘Swallowing the past,
planting the future–
doing and being both’.

Thanks Kim. I love the way the day uses both movement and threads.

This is a wonderful mediation on that “pivot” of bright fire. The spark and leap of god into living entirety.

This sounds like the Oracle speaking, with all her questions and half-answers, but also in her insistence on the importance of circles and cycles. Birth, life and death are equally a part of existence.

Thanks Jane, of course the Oracle knows Beltane well. I’m sure she was whispering as I was writing.

I’m certain she was.

A magical space to inhabit, in the world and in these two pieces!

Thanks Sun. We need to keep affirming that magic I think.

I agree with Jane. I thought this was an Oracle poem at first (well, we know they all are, but. . .)
The repeated questioning is insistent–but as always, I, too, love that in between space.

Thanks Merril. The Oracle was definitely hovering around.

This poem brought to mind: ‘The Unbearable Lightness of Being:’ everything so deep and so light at the same time. A fitting hymn for Beltane!

Oh gosh, Kerfe, I am sorry autocorrect misspelled ‘your’ as ‘you’re.’ GROAN.
It’s true. Of course I don’t know you personally, but from what I’ve observed, you are getting more and more down to your authentic bones and expressing it beautifully. Well deserved! ❤

Autocorrect can be both annoying and amusing.
I hope you’re right. I will keep on, regardless.
