The days seem shorter than usual this winter, and greyer. The Oracle knows.
always this leavetaking–
as if the wind was a light,
an ancient breathsong to follow
into rivers rooted
beneath deep forest moonshine–
a secret buried between
winter’s dark quiet
and the cloud-covered sun

There’s something beautiful in those melancholy metaphors and images. Melancholy in the beauty too. Leavetaking. It is, even though we seem to be going nowhere.

Winter closing in can be such a gloomy time – particularly when there’s so much grief and fear in the world. Your poem expresses it well

It sometimes feels to me like a leavetaking and sometimes like waking from a dream into a colder reality, but definitely best to keep the wind at your back at any rate!

a haunting call, yearning for the sun to return … we also had heavy grey clouds, rainfall and wild winds for about 7 weeks and this is summer!
