morningtide chills,
causes the moment
of wakening to linger–
scattering the vestiges
of dreaming into limbo

where am I?

hidden inside
my longing to stay
covered, warm,
release all

I shiver

wonder whether
I can reject this
habitual rising
for a protracted

They turn the heat off in my building at night and it doesn’t come on again until 6 am. My alarm goes off at 5:30, and these days it’s very tempting to linger for a half hour or more.

A quadrille for dVerse, where Merril has provided the word shiver.

  1. Ooh, I wouldn’t want to have someone else controlling my heat! You might need to have a rack of layering ready to step into as you throw the blankets back. Here I heat only my bedroom to halfway warm (65) while the rest of the house is around 62, which means I get the shock when I open my bedroom door. Luckily the heat vents run along the floor and I have cat beds near them so the furbabies stay cozy.

    1. It can be too hot too. One apartment I lived in my windows were always open wide, even on the coldest days. Or it can be worse–one of my first apartments would have ice on the inside of the windows. But we are all lucky in comparison with people living on the streets.
