who am I but an
avatar for some
one else?—perhaps once I saw
them, imagined the
life lived—or maybe
in the end they are a tear
in my own fabric–
a bit of magic,
a sliver caught unveiled, stilled
for a moment in
the light of the moon–
a gap waiting to be filled

For NaPoWriMo Day 8, the prompt is to write about your alter-ego.
Muri suggested the alouette form for her April Scavenger Hunt, which I have attempted here, with the rhymes a bit slanted.

‘a tear in my own fabric’
Yes, that’s a great way to put it. Suggests anything ‘alter’ springs from you, another facet of the same person, not independent that you can wash your hands of.

You shouldn’t stray too far from yourself for your alter-ego. I think that’s true.

This is so very good! I love the detail of the collage and the alouette just flies along smoothly!

Thanks Muri. It was a lot of work, but once I relaxed the rhymes a bit it all came together.

“s sliver caught unveiled” says it beautifully. Lovely alouette and the collage is so apt.

Thanks Punam. Some things only appear by moonlight I think.

“a tear in my own fabric” stood out to me–and it goes with the collage, the different faces/beings within sliding up to the surface.

Thanks Merril. I did the poem first then looked for the art. This collage. seemed just right.

“A gap waiting to be filled”… Sounds optimistic, somehow. And beautiful art again.

“a tear /in my own fabric–” sensational line and your collage echoes current astronomical events with the planets lining up to be joined by the moon later! Evidently your avatar can tear the cosmos!

Thanks for that information Laura. I hope this alignment results in some worldwide healing…

to me, the faces behind the young woman’s face look like they’re part of her head covering – probably because of their duller colors, compared to her face… I like the effect.
