she constructed herself out of symbols–
wings of air, pearls of fire and water,
darkness flowing through light on
foliage ships sailing empyrean tides—
wings of air, pearls of fire and water,
cast like a talisman amid waves of
foliage ships sailing empyrean tides–
stars swimming through sea and sky

cast like a talisman amid waves of
vast infinite whispers—blooming, listening to
stars swimming through sea and sky–
shapeshifting in cosmic reflection
of vast infinite whispers—blooming, listening to
the chimeric form of quintessence
shapeshifting in cosmic reflection–
the wheel turns through moons, dancing,

a chimeric form of quintessence,
crossing the rainbow bridge of between–
the wheel turns through moons, dancing–
female, fertile, fiercely bathed in blood—
crossing the rainbow bridge of between,
like darkness flowing through light–
female, fertile, fiercely bathed in blood–
she constructed herself out of symbols

Another pantoum, for earthweal where Brendan asks us to consider how we can fit well into the land–how do history and mystery intersect?

Wow! I love the layering of the poem and the photos of the construction of the art! This is wondrously wrought!

Thanks Muri. As David pointed out, a pantoum is full of layers.

Kerfe, this is one of your best pantoums ever, and each image of pieces of your collage stand as whole. Ga ga over it all ❤ Bellisima!!!!!!!

This is a tremendous poem! And the collage, like Hieronymus Bosch! I love that line ‘like darkness flowing through light’ It says so much.

Thanks Jane. It evolved–both the poem and the art–over time. I like the comparison to Bosch.

Bosch leaps out of it for me. The idiosyncratic details.

Symbols here are not static but a pulsing, weaving, phantasmagoric weave of lit being. You paint it so well. … Berndan the nagavator

I love the collage…makes me think perhaps we need a second volume of The Anthropocene Hymnal!

What a wonderful pantoum. Almost kaleidoscopic as the layers and symbols reform and reform into being. And the collage so beautiful – as always.
