I can imagine you following the dogs into the leaf drifts beneath the trees. Yes, another aspect of the same thing.
Also, speaking of totem poles, I can see this poem fitting that image.
That thought reminds me of the dream I had of visiting you and the dogs awhile ago…I think that was even before you got them. Sometimes dreams and art intersect.
I do think you are right, the poem should not be about the totem pole itself.
There you go again! OK, I’m a sucker for your paintings. In addition to being inviting to the eye, they make me want to write. Maybe I will. Good poem too.
Wish I could do color like you. Think maybe it’s built into the body, but not into mine. Then again – no practice makes a difference.
Yes. This is a beautiful description of today – there is a chill in the air. The tree frogs were complaining last night and then they went silent…

I remember now. The carvings on totem poles are animal spirits, I imagine. Wandering dogs would fit perfectly.

Yes, mostly, although there are some human ones on this one–I looked it up. But Raven is there, at the bottom. That’s a good place to start.

Raven is enough. No need to worry about what the human ones are up to.

Thanks! I’ve been doing it a long time. I never outgrew my childhood love of coloring…

Lovely, Kerfe. All of our poems are variations on a theme.
And I see one of Jane’s dogs in your art–or maybe it’s a deer.
