Once upon a time, wonder. Inside narrative, it becomes lost, leaves only invisible tracks. Who will see them, find them, save them? Always a long journey to the center of the spiral.

Over rainbows, they said, somewhere, lies the road to Nirvana. Don’t be fooled, they said, by the enticing Road to Ruin. But where to begin? Where, even, is the rainbow? I appeal to the mystery hidden inside darkness.

Two quadrilles for dVerse, where Merril provided the word track. I was inspired to write these by Lisa at Tao Talk, who used “once upon a time” as the beginning of one of her troikus for her poetry postcards this year. I’ve illustrated the quadrilles with some of my own poetry postcards from 2021, where I printed some of my moon photos and gave them words.
Thanks for the nod, Kerfe. Wonderful thoughtbytes that resonate. Really enjoy how the messages in the cards go back and forth with the messages in the quadrilles. And the moon pics! Another great use for Lady Luna 🙂

Thanks Jade. She is always full of inspiration.
As I told Colleen, I think that’s a great first line prompt. Many ways to go with it.

Thanks Colleen. As I told Lisa, I think you can go many different directions when you start out with Once Upon A Time. (a good idea for a prompt, in fact)

I love all these swirling thoughts, questions, art (and the moon, of course). I particularly like the first quadrille. The never-ending narrative.

These two are sphinx-like. Enigmas. I like that idea of the difficulty of finding happiness until suddenly we’re submerged by it.

I think fairy tales are always enigmatic. The real ones, not the Disney versions.
Sometimes things need to find us.

Disney fairy tales make me want to puke. And the cynical way they hop on every bandwagon.

The questions and the hint at an answer intrigued me – both poems are wonderfully accompanied by mysterious and satisfying art!

Even as it changes its face, the moon is constant. What better way to track oneself?

Feeling swallowed up by that “after” that engulfs! Your postcards are so dreamy, perfect for the quadrilles. I enjoyed losing myself in them!

Emotions as locations. Sensibility is a territory, a landscape. And physical landscape often seems to provide a physical expression of feeling. All these are well patterned in your words.
