impossibly strewn,
all authority breaks down–
the fierce mother speaks
impossibly strewn,
feral rain roars, abstracted–
wind swims through the streets
authority breaks down,
chokes on forgotten questions–
threads turn into knots
the fierce mother speaks–
wild voices rise, converging–
elemental fire

The phrase that jumped out at me when I looked at Jane’s Oracle 2 words this week was “the fierce mother speaks”. I’ve been ruminating on it all week and finally came up with a poem yesterday. I spent a long time fooling around on the computer with the above image, which took a scan of an asemic drawing I made and added some Photoshopped images. The collage is from the archives.

Also linking to Sherry’s earthweal challenge, wild souls. Whose soul is wilder than that of Mother Nature?
Love it!!!

You’re right! ‘The fierce mother speaks’ is such a tremendous phrase and you’ve given her such a ferocious speech. Love that image too, like exploding girders.

Thanks Jane. It was a gift from the Oracle.

Sometimes that happens and you’re right to treat it as a gift. I’m sure that’s how it’s intended.

The fierce mother will keep speaking up until we are forced to listen!

“The fierce mother speaks” for sure – may enough of us hear her while we still can. Love the poem, and your art, as always, is wonderful.

Thanks Sherry. She will keep raising her voice whether we listen or not. Too many deaf ears…

Powerful troiku, Kerfe. It’s a tossup of whether it will be water or fire that does us in.

I see patterns and words in this – specifically the word HELP. It is such a powerful illustration to this moving poem.

Thanks Muri. The earth and its inhabitants could use some help right now.

Mother Nature is indeed wild these days. Many parts of eastern Australia are inundated with flood waters right now. Parts of Africa and Nepal too.
Your art work looks like flood debris to me within that context.

So much is falling apart. As Lisa said, flood or fire? Both I think.

That’s for sure. We are south of the floods here but they are getting worse in the north of the State – and more rain predicted mid next week!

Part of the US is flooded and part is in severe drought with fires. It’s the same everywhere.

Oh gosh. It seems to be getting harder and harder to find out what’s happening in other places. Thanks for letting me know.

I think it’s bad everywhere. The hurricane devastated Florida.

This is hands down some of the most powerful personification I’ve ever read, Kerfe. Amazing.
Also, you taught me a new word: “asemic” ~ thanks!

Thanks David. Blame it on the Oracle.
There’s lots of asemic writing floating around on WordPress. I’m sure you’ll run into it again.
