step through, not around–
inside the moon, inside dark–
be a traveler
step through, not around–
body recedes, senses flow—
become the beyond
inside the moon, inside dark,
merge with currents, remnants hewn
before conscious thought
be a traveler–
look within through lunar eyes–
transorbital guide

Sarah at dVerse provides the irresistible prompt of moon-names for October’s full moon.
I’m still obsessed with the troiku form, and I revisited my moon postcards from POPO 2021 for further inspiration.
I love all of this – the postcards and the troiku! ❤

Thanks David. The moon is always a worthy subject for both art and words.

The troika is a wonderful form to work with, and yours is so deftly done, with imperatives like ‘be a traveler’, ‘step through’ and ‘become the beyond’, encouraging the reader to explore everything. And I love collage cards – I used to make them with my daughter when she was little.

Thanks Kim. I love sending postcards, and my friends and family have received quite a few over the years. Even better when you make your own.

The troiku form suits your worrying away at the theme, insisting that we look and don’t step around.

It’s a good form for me I think. I do tend to circle things.

Thanks Punam. I started with the postcards, and it was easy to use them to construct a poem.

Reminds me of the night travels of cats, whose eyes both see well in moonlight while resembling the moon as well. I imagine your poem is what my cat used to think during her roaming.

That’s a good point Aletha. A cat’s eyes are definitely attuned to the moon.

‘become the beyond’ – I like this advice, it’s expansive rather than reductive!

We should always seek to expand inside I think. Outside not so much.
