what I keep secret
is written on my body
underneath my skin–
what I choose to feel
shows up hidden, as tattoos
blood-inked inside veins
that hostage my heart,
a pounding prison of fear–
frozen, silent, still–
no magic portal
arrives to illuminate
who I am and why–
only the moon sees, the stars–
reflecting me back, alive

For W3 prompt #36, where Muri has asked for a 14 line poem on the subject of poverty.
I like this haiku sonnet. It’s a very Kerfe style.
The moon sees everything.

She does. And I agree–this form feels very natural to me.

The two images, although using the same colors, present very different atmospheres. The first one reminds me of a parasitic insect that has its host trapped. The second one looks like the host has decided to fight back with a spear. (My mind’s Rorshach of them.) Moonlight magic at work.

Thanks Jade. They were meant to be closed and then opening, but beyond that, we each see ourselves in them I think. Yes, moonlight magic.

It’s funny that if I look at them again and consider for myself, they look very different. I wonder what that means?

I saw a turtle in the first painting, then maybe the turtle phoenixing. No matter, I like the pictures and the poem, which as Merril says, is very Kerfe.

I definitely see the turtle too. I like that these Rorschach paintings do as they were meant to do–provide many ways of interpretation. Thanks!

I love those seeming contradictions. We judge people on the most meaningless of criteria—appearances. Poverty is a garment but only a garment.

That’s the crux of it, although I never would have thought to express it that way myself. Thanks Jane.

Enigmatic. Words and images both. Very Kerfe!

Which of course is what a Rorschach is supposed to be. Maybe why I like them so much.

in afterthought, these images are delicious, if a little disturbing (not a criticism).

Meant to be disturbing, so well-observed.

This is definitely one of my favorites of yours, Kerfe – and I love how you turned “hostage” into a verb!
